Miranda Lawson costume commish by hmwsgx Miranda Lawson costume commish by hmwsgx
Sorry for the shoddy photos, took these really fast for the customer and had to get it packaged up.
My first (and probably last haha) commission. This has been in the works for months and months.
This was my biggest challenge yet. The printed 2 way stretch vinyl was cut into 12x16 inch sheets due to the print plate size, so I had to figure out clever ways to cut the costume without it looking too patchwork.

I am aware the hexagons do not line up at some seams and unfortunately, that was something I had to deal with due to the 12x16 sheet issue. The suit does not fit me properly since, well...it is intended for someone else! The logos are being added by the customer.

I made the belt, jacket, leggings, and suit. If you are going to SDCC the Miranda will be there.

And yes, the suit unzips at the front flap.

This Miranda costume was amazing!  ThresherMaw wore it perfectly.  I can't imagine how you took the measurements for it.  Can you tell us how you worked that all out?

Thank you! She looks amazing in it, I do agree! I sent her about 20 odd measurements to get the exact circumference of her (wrists, bicep etc etc) and then took it in a bit more to compensate for the slight stretch in the materials.

Hi! I do take commissions, but unfortunately, it takes 2-3 weeks to get materials shipped to me alone. If you're interested in a commission for a far off deadline I would be happy to talk more

This costume is absolutely wonderful! I hope you don't mind me asking - do you take commissions for/make/sell individual pieces of costumes, rather than just whole costumes? And if so, are the boots in your Miranda Lawson pattern attached to the rest of the costume (making it impossible to make a pair individually, apart from the rest of the costume) or would you be willing to take on a commission for just the boots and belt pieces of the outfit? Also - how did you achieve the hexagon pattern on the material? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm just trying to make a variation of this costume on my own on a shoestring budget (and according to your Journal commissioning the whole outfit from you would turn out to be a bit more pricey than I can afford right now, unfortunately - but your outfit here did turn out absolutely stunning, no doubt about it, so in any case, it's worth every penny you charge!).

Hey Hannah!
I can do bits and pieces, yes--the bootsleeves were meant to be removable so it wouldn't be a pain to get in and out of the costume :D Essentially, they work similarly to legwarmers. But unfortunately the fastest I can start a commission would be mid-September if you're in a time crunch.

The hexagon pattern was printed on by a screenprinting company, but if you're working with spandex you can go to fabricondemand.com to submit a hexagon pattern (I have mine here to download [link] )

If you want to send me a PM, I can do an estimate based off of materials you want.

Okay no problem! I was thinking of doing it myself . What materials did you use and where did you get them. I want to be fairly economical . How much was everything roughly ? Any suggestions ? :D

about 90% of my materials came from Joann fabrics. The rest was either provided by the customer, and the belt fabric was ordered from mjtrends.com. I used 2 way stretch matte pleathers in Joann's costume section, and for lining I used white swimsuit lining since it has stretch to it. The square panels in the suit were made of that basketball jersey mesh and backed by black spandex.

On my end for materials it was roughly 100-125, but the hexagon fabric was provided by the customer which was custom printed, so it might have been really really pricey. I am not quite sure. D: I know the white pleather was originally ordered from distinctivefabric.com I believe it was this fabric [link]

My suggestion is finding fabric that has 4 way stretch. It is easier to move in!
